Equity lifestyle properties have been collecting massive late fees from residents who aren’t able to use the companies third party portal for paying rent and shouldn’t be forced to do so

For decades mobile homeowners leasing land from ELS have paid their rent with a personal check but now they are being told they can no longer pay their rent with a personal check. Mobile homeowners are being forced to use a third party portal and sign over their basic rights before they do so, meanwhile others are being charged late fees because their check was returned and others just don’t have access to the internet.

When did paying rent with a check become taboo. Banks are opening up new branches daily with big signs outside offering you FREE checking to lure you in so its not like the banks checking system is being phased out, so why is this such a problem.

Its not. Equity lifestyle properties have found a sector that no one seems to be paying attention to right now but we are going to change that. They are preying on senior citizens that dont have-access to internet, cant drive and some cant even walk . This no personal check policy is intended to make more money for the company in late fees, return fees or whatever other fee they want to charge you because you cant afford internet. Some people just don’t want to use a third party vendors with all the cyber attacks and personal information being stored and especially a vendor that forces you to sign your rights away in order to use it. There is no one to call if there is a problem and ELS makes you sign away your rights as well by saying they are not responsible for any issues with the portal.

This issue is definitely going to be the the next class action suit against this company.
