Mobile Homeowners Unite

We as mobile homeowners in Florida are stuck . During the pandemic the state of Florida turned a blind eye to predatory companies like Equity Lifestyle Properties otherwise known as ELS, and now we’re being held hostage.

ELS came in under the radar while thousands of senior citizen were dying from the pandemic. They walked away from the long term agreements they had with residents, which raised the lot rent an average of 3.5 to 4.0 percent a year for 3 years and doubled the rent increase the first year and again this year at just around an 8 percent increase.

We used to get water included and now we get billed separately for water and because there aren’t individual water meters its divided equally between each resident regardless of how many people live in the home, and what about the snow birds who are away 6 months a year. Its not fair and how are they able to get away with this ??

Lot rents in mobile home parks have just about doubled from 2021 and its not just Equity Lifestyle Properties. Real estate investment trust companies are popping up everywhere in the mobile home park sector because there is ZERO regulation concerning mobile home park statutes and rules. Mobile home park owners like ELS can get away with just about anything. Forget about the DPBR , they do nothing for mobile homeowners and willingly will tell you so on the phone. 723 should not be included in the division of Condominiums, timeshares and mobile homes because the the rules are not the same. There is nothing in writing to stop these vultures from praying on our senior citizens and we’re the only voice right now to make people listen.

Lot rents are so high that we cannot sell our homes for what they are worth. There are homes in Down Yonder Village that haven’t sold for a year. Yes the two hurricanes and the damage we sustained aren’t helping matters, but sales are still way down and it’s because of the high lot rent period.

I keep writing in hopes that someone will listen. It wont be the DeSantis administration but hes almost done anyway. We have to vote for the next candidate that has a vested interest in the mobile home communities of Florida. The very same communities that made Florida what it is today. Senior Citizens came here when this swamp couldn’t attract a fly and now the very same senior citizens are being bullied, pillaged and flat out disrespected by companies like Equity Lifestyle Properties. Shame on the State of Florida.
